Our God given right : 2nd Amendment

We all know it: Liberals want to take away our guns! For centuries now, Americans have been able to defend themselves. All this is in jeopardy now, when the next liberal president comes into office (may God help us if this ever again happens). Friends, fight back right now: Join the NRA right now, join your local Gun Club, Buy a Gun and visit SaveOurGuns.com!
By God, we can not stand by and watch them take away our God given right to defend ourselves! This is the foundation America stands on!
Thanks once again for reading this and supporting our effort. You are great Americans, my friends.
Take care, watch your back and have a great day.
Yours,
Shelley

Shelley, it’s not the liberals who want to take away our guns. It’s the neoconservatives who want to disarm us. Liberal gun control policies aren’t intended to disarm American gun owners. They’re intended to keep guns out of the hands of criminals, and to keep military grade weapons out of the hands of civilians. The average American doesn’t need an M-16 or an AK-47 for self defense. A small calibre pistol will do the job nicely.

I happen to be a gun owner and a liberal. I used to be a member of the NRA, until I realized that its only purpose is to collect names and addresses of gun owners so the neoconservatives will know where to look when they want to take our guns.

As long as there have been firearms, most of the time they have been taken away from people by governments under the control of right wing leadership. Nazi Germany is a prime example.

Under Bush’s authority, FEMA took guns away from people in New Orleans in the aftermath of hurricane Katrina, when they needed to protect themselves from looters. Read your history books Shelley. Conservative leadership has more reason than liberal leadership to be afraid of an armed citizenry.

Well the Norleans thing was an exception.
Sure, they don’t want to have looting criminals running around with guns after Kathrina! Everyting else would be just crazy.
In general though the liberals would LOVE to ban guns.
Don’t just spit out your Mike Malloy talking points. I know them all to well.
And if I, as an American, want to own a M-16, than so be it! Why not? You would not ban pickup truck, just because you could do more damage than with a Toyota, right?

Banning automatic weapons would be the equivalent to ban certain topics regarding the freedom of speech.

You can’t have it both ways. Either you have free speech or not. Either you have the right to own guns or you don’t. Or would you like to make guns illegal for people that have an extremely fast trigger finger (like me). Well, think about it.. It’s almost as having an automatic weapon, right?

Also, if you start to ban guns that can shoot ‘faster’, then you have to ban guns that can shoot ‘further’ or have more power… where does it end?

No, America needs more guns, more religion, more republican values!!!

  3. One Angry Patriot December 7th, 2005 7:24 pm

Shelley, the 2nd Amendment says nothing about guns. It says, “…the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.” By your logic, I have the right to possess an Abrams tank, a Bradley Armored Fighting Vehicle, or even an intercontinental ballistic missile complete with a nuclear warhead.

Sorry Shelley, but there’s a reason why there’s a distinction drawn between soldiers and civilians. If you want to play with the big guns, join the military.

    Shelley,
As in all your other posts, you are wrong again. I am a liberal and a gun owner as well, and what Patriot told you is right.
While I agree with Patriot about keeping guns out of the hands of criminals, I do think that we should be able to have military style small arms.
It is not the liberals that you need to be worried about when it comes to having your guns taken away, it is the cowardly conservatives who will allow the government to take them away under a new provision of the Patriot Act.
Spineless republicans are giving up all their liberties for a false sense of security, and they will end up with just what they deserve, neither liberty nor security.
When the liberals return to power, as they surely will, it would take a two-thirds vote in both houses, the presidents signature, and then it would have to be ratified by the individual states. Hell, they couldn’t even do that with the ERA for women.
Trust me, the law of unintended consequences will kick in and your precious right to bear arms will be lost to a new version of the Patriot Act if it is not disposed of very soon, and you can bet that conservative Republicans will be the first ones in line to turn in their guns.

    Shelley,
By the way, your beloved Republicans just voted to give away more of their individual rights by voting to extend the provisions of the Patriot Act today.
What a bunch of spineless, cowardly wonders you Republicans are. This is why the Army can’t get enough people to join. You don’t have the courage of your convictions.
The loss of your right to bear arms is not far away.

  7. Posterchild December 16th, 2005 8:52 pm

    Shelley,
The 2nd Amendment does not grant you the right to own a firearm. The amendment’s purpose is clearly states. “A well - regulated militia being necessary to a secure state,…”

You must belong to a WELL-REGULATED militia to claim a right to a firearm, and it must be of the type used by that militia. The National Defense Act of 1916 required that all states name their militias “National Guard”. You have the Iowa National Guard, regulated and under control of your governor.

The U.S. Supreme Court has never overturned a local firearm ban. You cannot own a handgun in Washington, DC. Nor can you register one in Chicago. Morton Grove Illinois was the first city to ban handgun ownership 25 years ago, and its ban still stands today.

Most people believe as you do, but that is a popular misconception. Consider yourself corrected.

I’m with shelley on this argument. If you want to see what a America would be without our trusty side-arms, look no further than England.

Guess what, Elganand still has murders - possibly because they have a lower church attendance than America. Guns dont kill, Athiests kill.

I would oppose any act of congress limiting our ownership of firearms, but I would be for any legislation that forced people to know their god.

  9. Mr. Freeze December 21st, 2005 7:14 pm

Yes, let’s look at England. How many English died from gun shots in 2005? How about Japan? Probably fewer than 100 in either case. Now, let’s look at the US. 20-30 thousand every year! The equivalent of a typical US suburb wiped out annually by firearms.
How many snipers go on a rampage in England or Japan where gun control is very strict? How many mass school shootings and mass restaurant slayings ala Luby’s or McDonalds where 22 people were gunned down by a maniac with an assualt weapon occur in England or Japan? Almost never.
If guns made a country safe, the US would be the safest in the world. But it’s the most dangerous. White Americans with guns are far more dangerous to Americans than foreign terrorists. The numbers prove it.

I know this is rather late in the game, but I just have to point out that most of the above posters are apparently idiots.

    1. Liberal gun control policies are based on a belief that people can’t be trusted. Liberals believe this because they know they themselves can’t be trusted. Actually, the farther away from the middle, to either side, the less one can be trusted.

    2. Katrina - the NRA is having a fair amount of success in getting states, and possibly the feds, to make it illegal to confiscate weapons after a natural disaster. As one angry patriot said, in such a situation, you need your own weapons to protect yourself from the lawless, while the authorities are too busy with the disaster to protect you.

    3. You, as an American, probably cannot legally own an M-16 or an AK-47. Fully automatic weapons are strictly regulated. Which doesn’t seem to keep criminals from getting them. OTOH, there have been silly (liberal/progressive) attempts to ban weapons just because they look like fully automatic weapons.

    4. Anonymous (10/12/05 01:04) - fine display of Christianity there!

    5. Shelley, if you’re so anti-European, why are you displaying dates in a Euro format (dd/mm/yy)? U.S. format is
mm/dd/yy. Or you could use JIS format (yyyy-mm-dd), useful for sorting by date.

    6. The Second Amendment reads A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed. That is an absolute phrase at the beginning. It does not restrict the rest of the sentence. There is no requirement to join a milita in order to own a firearm. The right of the people to keep and bear arms is absolute, limited only in scope, since you cannot make or maintain a well regulated militia with a people which is ignorant of arms.

5.True “You cannot own a handgun in Washington, DC. Nor can you register one in Chicago.” Notice, though, that both of those places have high violent crime rates, including homicide. DC has often had the highest homicide rate in the country, but only since it banned handguns. Not much of a testimony to the effectiveness of such measures.

    6. Oh, yeah, England.
    a. It never fails to amuse me when gun control nuts go for the ‘number of people killed by guns’ argument. In the first place, the absolute number is meaningless. It’s the rate (per unit of population) that matters if you’re trying to compare. Secondly, why is getting killed by a gun worse than getting killed by a knife, or poison, or any of the other ways of getting killed violently? If you look at violent death rates (homicide + suicide, and, just to make the U.S. look worse, we’ll throw in accidental firearm deaths), the U.S. is about average for a Western industrialized nation. Obviously, guns don’t matter that much in this context.
    b. Since Engalnd essentially banned firearms, its violent crime rate has skyrocketed. The fastest growing category is… gun crime. For most violent crimes, the rates in England are today higher than they are in the U.S.. Far from being the most dangerous country in the world, the U.S. is actually one of the safest. Unless you belong to specific subcultures that make a habit of preying mostly on themselves.

would love if you could put this comment online:

take germany or england as an example: it is very hard to get a gun there and to keep it. you dont get a gun for opening a bank account and you cant buy ammo in a supermarket right next to magazines and soda drinks…

and in germany and england, the percentual rate of killers in the population is not even close to the rate in america. what do you think about all the shootings in highschools, banks, stores…?!? when someone kills his wife in germany, you can read it as the headline on every newspaper the next day. i guess this would never happen in america, because you would need dozens of headlines ;)

I have never understood why Americans need to have guns in cities, i can understand that they may wish to hunt in the country. Even with allowing them the freedom of guns to hunt with what use is either a hand pistol or semi automatic, these types of guns seem to be for purely crime purposes (how much dear would be left after you shot it using an m16?). Some Americans believe it is there right to have a gun, although i read the second ammendment as restricting guns to the public unless they are actively in the miltra (like the TA in Britain and this hasn’t stopped them serving active duty in Iraq).

It is unfair to consider crime rate per unit of population unless you also include enviromental restrants, like the proximity of people living close together. It would be much fairer to compare simlar areas like New York and London.

    Shelly
You say you are Christian but speak of “the god given right to defend yourselves”. Hm… I remember of reading the Holy Bible. I think i read something like :

“If someone strikes you on one cheek, turn to him the other also.” (Luke 6:29)

So tell me how you ought to act when you’re beaten or better attacked? I think this Bible passage tells you definitely not to strike back with side-arms.

greetings from the gate to hell a german Christian

After the election of John McCain, we intend to continue with the implementation of President Bush’s Faith Based Initiatives. One of these, in conjunction with the work of the illustrious Dr. Karl Rove (a winner of the Medal of Freedom), was to “get the bugs out of our democracy”. We’re not going to change democracy, so much as fix the inherent problems that render some of it obsolete, sort of just bring it up to date for our times.

Case in point: Free Speech is not a right it’s a privilege. Those who abuse it, (such as your self) will be in for some harsh punishment…as Vice President Cheney so aptly put it “A little dunking never hurt anybody.” No more liberal, Democrat and Homosexual lies! What a breath of fresh air! We also intend to bring Jesus Christ out of the shadows and put Him in the forefront our country, government and crusades. Anyone who doesn’t like it…well…a little dunking…

    Fight on Christian solders
    Marching on to War
    With the Sword of Jesus
    Going on Before!

…There’s a lot of truth in that old Christian spiritual, especially these days!
McCain is the only one who can save us now the President and Mr. Cheney’s time is growing short….

If Obama wins, we will all die at the hands of the Mohamadians!

    Jesus is love!

    Yours in Christ, J.D. Stephens
