Linux: A European threat to our computers
Like most things that are worth owning, Computers are an American invention. Look at any modern computer and you will see that the whole thing is the product of American brilliance.
For example, this rugged IBM laptop I am using was designed and built by an American company. It runs software built by Microsoft, one of America’s most productive organizations. My computer does everything I could possibly want: I can do my work, submit my taxes and even search the Bible.
Like all the greatest American engineering, it’s an example of innovation that makes a growing group of European and Chinese hackers jealous. They hate our lead in computing technology and will stop at nothing until they have control of all of our computers.
I’m talking about a project called ‘Linux’, something you may not have encountered, but might do some day.
It’s a computer program that was initially developed in Finland as a means of circumventing valuable copyrights and patents owned by an American company called SCO Group.
Unlike Windows, which is a mature commercial product which is normally included with every new computer, Linux is given away. Now it may not sound like much of a problem, after all there is very little profit in merely giving a product away.
This would be certainly true were in not for the Linux project’s seductive Marxist ideology and the effect that it has on ‘Blue-State’ liberals. Indeed, Linux is so pervasive amongst the blue states and many liberal universities that a leading computer expert Steve Balmer (from Microsoft) described Linux as cancer.
The American software industry is worth more than $7 Billion; Introducing a foreign product like Linux which is often copied for free could threaten that entire industry. A generation of computer users might get use to accepting foreign software hand-outs rather than paying for a superior American products. If only the danger were just to our economy:
These days computers control everything from TV stations to battleships; Our crucial information and defense infrastructure is built on computer technology. If we allow this cancer into our networks, there is no knowing what the effect might be on our infrastructure, but that is just what liberals are trying to do.
Imagine if the State of the Union address were hacked because the TV station decided to save money by using Linux? Imagine if a stealth-bomber crashed because it’s software was written by anonymous Chinese or European hackers. It would make as much sense as inviting the French to come over and take over the White-House.
And guess what software Osama Bin Laden uses on his laptop?
If you guessed it was Linux you would be 100% right. Osama uses Linux because he knows designed to counterfit DVDs, curcumventing the Digital Millenium Copyright Act, and defraud companies like Disney.
Next time somebody asks you how Al Queda agents pay for their rifles and rocket launchers, you can tell them that foreign hackers make software called Linux which helps them steal from Americans.
This Linux problem is a growing issue, and one that conservative Americans cannot afford to ignore. Fortunately Microsoft have prepared a great deal of information to help computer users get away from this menace. But there is something you can do to help keep American #1 in the computer business:
If one of your friends is using Linux or may be tempted to try it show them this article. Explain that Linux is a genuine threat and that by using it they may be opening their computer to Chinese hackers.
If you see a company using Linux, it may be that they have not paid for this software. Report them to the Business Software Alliance who have the legal authority to inspect any company’s computers for illegal programs like Linux.
Finally, remember to include Linux users in your prayers tonight. As individuals we may not be able to change people’s minds, but the Bible teaches that God can make any sinner repent.

It’s just some primitive European substitute for a real operation system like the mighty Windows XP.
Also I would like to mention that Apple’s ‘Mac Os X’ is a real threat, too. This damn extrem leftwing company is giving millions to the democ-rats!!!

Thanks for posting my article Shelley; I submitted this to the mainstream IT press, but none of them wanted to know. It’s shocking to learn that the same liberal bias that infects mainstream news-sources also affects the technical press.
Yes, Linux is a primative European clone; It is much less capable than Windows. In fact it omits features that were standard in Windows back in 1998; For example Linux has no built-in anti-virus or anti-spyware software.
You cannot even buy popular utilities like Norton Security to compensate for this fact. There are no tools for common tasks like defragging a hard disk. God knows what you would use to send a fax or make a website. You cannot even get Front Page for Linux.
Linux is that bad; The only explaination I can think for people using it is that it by-passes the protection given by American companies and the Dept of Homeland Security. It should be considered a terrorist program.

1. Windows did not have ‘built-in’ anti-virus or anti-spyware software in 1998. It still doesn’t have ‘built-in’ anti-virus, and the anti-spyware is in beta. It didn’t even have a ‘built-in’ firewall in 1998, and the present firewall is not one of the best out there (which is why Symantec and McAfee and Zone are doing such good business).
2. Most of the internet runs on Linux. It’s generally more stable than Windows, and problems are fixed more quickly.

Linux is nothing special in my opinion, just one more branch of the Unix family which is quite vast… saying that all those operating systems are useless and threats just because of Microsoft is a foolish statement that no one should even be allowed. IT press didn’t want to show such article ? There has to be a good a reason! Linux has earned respect of the industry. It might be buggy (the question of stability can be discussed a lot, depending of how the benchmarks are being done), but so is Windows. And in term of productivity, it has good tools, which have been tested. I’ve learned, thanks to some people here, that Google search runs on Linux (I thought they were using FreeBSDs).
So just as someone said, GNU/Linux and BSD are the most powerful operating systems for all servers, and even your Internet Services Provider use them, and I’m sure to not be wrong on this point!
And Mac OS X being a threat, Apple being communist… Jesus Christ, this can’t be even possible! I mean, let’s not destroy the image of the country by saying such silliness. Apple, Microsoft are american companies, full stop. They are contributing to improve the image of the US.

Charles Babbage designed the first modern computer in the 1840s (yes, that’s eighteen fourties, about 160 years ago) and Collossus was the first electronic computer built by Britain in 1942, well before ENIAC.
Even the Germans could lay claim to having invented the computer before the Americans as their electro-mechanical computers called Zuse Z1, Z2 and Z3 date back to the 1930s.

LINUX is an invention of a guy from Finland. It is based on UNIX. Linux name comes from developers name (Linus Torvalds) and UNIX backwards. (Linus is not usual name in Finland) Finland is also homeland of Sauna and Nokia cellphones. This article really has reinforced my opinion of stupidity of people.

I called a friend of mine who is a security expert, and he explained it was quite easy and common to use security measure to masquarade as linux in order to protect from hacker. As foreign hackers are usually far from being expert, they will try to use basic linux and of course, this will not work. He also added that linux anarchists hackers prefer to hack windows servers as this provides them with more interesting software and more complexity and value, so masquarading as running linux also protect from this kind of hacker.

I have spent some time in the states, and while I have seen many wonderful things, I quite simply have to admit, it was rather good to come home to Sweden. I am of course not free here either, but at least I know about it.

Shelley: as you may have noticed, there are quite a few people who’ve done their homework far better then you have. Linux is not a bad thing, nor is it destroying the american market for computers.
OF COURSE Microsoft people would call Linux a cancer, and Linux people would call Windows a cancer. It’s called marketing. Did you know Linux is a UNIX clone? Did you know UNIX was designed and created by american companies and universities? Did you know companies like microsoft have actually WORSENED the market by selling closed source software? There was much more innovation back when source was still open then there has been in Windows since it was released. Does that make Windows bad? No, Windows is a desktop operating system. Linux is not. Linux, like UNIX, is a server operating system.
You’re telling people not to use Linux, that means none of you can use the internet. Anyone using the internet is using Linux in the way it was designed. If Linux did not exist, there would still be UNIX. If UNIX did not exist, there would be different things, but never Windows. Not even because Windows would not be able to handle it, but because Windows simply didn’t exist when the internet was invented. Without internet, I doubt if Microsoft would’ve been this big at all by now. Without Linux, Microsoft would not be what it is today. Be glad it exists and some people know how to use it. Don’t use it yourself, as you’ve obviously got no clue how servers or the internet works… that’s not an insult.

First most servers are not using linux but UNIX which has been around before Bill Gates bought the original Windows for something like $50K. UNIX was developed by Bell Labs. Most servers run Apache software which has also been around a long time. The original computing machine goes back to an English man named Babbage whom was English. America’s first computers as primative as they were sure had a lot of foreign help. I thnk some people need to do a little research before they state something. :-)

As for Linux’s use to counterfeit DVDs, that’s plain bullshit. The first three DVD-copying programs were written in windows for windows.

I’m as conservative as you can get but this has to be the craziest blog posting I have ever seen. As others have mentioned Linux was created by a student in Finland as a pet project and spread in popularity because it was simpler than UNIX and more importantly free.

Strange. Why it is then that there are much, much more programs for stealing copyrighted materials for pc/Windows users than for Linux?
I can easily buy software that can be used for stealing music, rip DVDs, hack other people’s computers and so on. And I happily use my Windows XP equipped computer for such actions. Yes. I happily steal DVDs, rip them with my Windows machine, add American movies and music to my collection of the Windows machine’s hard disc.
It is rather much easier to use all that on Windows than on Linux. Maybe you Tristan/Shelley should start promoting a ban on Windowds, because it makes breaking laws so much easier?

A friend of mine installed Linux on his laptop recently, buying into the hype, and it actually caused his screen to slowly melt! The manufacturer have refused a refund, explaining that the video drivers in Linux are so poorly written that they cause the screen’s backlight to run at the power of an industrial laser - they said he was lucky not to have been burned!

First of IBM, who sells linux-based servers (http://www-03.ibm.com/servers/eserver/linux/home.html) and works together with mostly redhat to do this. You can by the way check the box that your laptop came in. It’s probably assembled in malaysia.
Continuing on SCO, a company that makes a living in suing most other companies, amongst others, IBM. You can find more info about this on http://www.groklaw.net/.

Battleships don’t run windows for a simple reason; windows is not designed for those tasks. You will need some kind of real time platform, for example QNX (also in the UNIX-family). If you look in the EULA, you can see that windows is not intended for tasks such as battleships or nucelar powerplants.
I know this is said before, but it is so stupid that i have to say it again; linux is not illegal software! The reason why some companies make money of it, is to sell it with support. In windows case, you don’t just have to buy the support. You have to pay for the software as well.

Great article! However, it should also be noted that WWW, most likely the most common way of using the Internet, was created by a group of liberalist hippies from Switzerland, a country that has never been involved in warfare. Remember: when you surf the Internet, you are supporting communism!
Do not confuse the server and the client side. Eg any content (like HTML) can be produced by any software (like FrontPage or such) which than be served by non Microsoft system, hey they’re only files! If you see “windows-1250″ as character encodign it does not mean _anything_ about the server … Also, if the web server stats of your web server shows that majority of visitors are Windows users it can be true however it does not mean anything about the operating systems used on servers. On the server world (which builts the Internet on top of lower ISO/ISO layers)

I am using linux allready for several years and it works for me. It is a little more complicated to use than MS but if you know what you are doing then there is no match to linux. Windows is like way behind, development is slow, lots of bugs and lots of restrictions and probably windows is informing third parties about the habits of the user and personal details etc.
Linux is pure, source code is open to everyone. And everyone can look it up. With windows you do not have a clue what is your computer really doing. For example i will never visit my online bank account with windows client.

The code that goes into the kernel is completely checked by Linus himself. The same goes for most distributions, the submitted source is checked.

This Linux problem is a growing issue, and one that conservative Americans cannot afford to ignore. Fortunately Microsoft have prepared a great deal of information to help computer users get away from this menace. But there is something you can do to help keep American #1 in the computer business:
If one of your friends is using Linux or may be tempted to try it show them this article. Explain that Linux is a genuine threat and that by using it they may be opening their computer to Chinese hackers.
Linux is more secure then Windows, there are ALOT of security holes in Windows.
If you see a company using Linux, it may be that they have not paid for this software. Report them to the Business Software Alliance who have the legal authority to inspect any company’s computers for illegal programs like Linux.
Red Hat, a company that makes the best Linux distribution for servers, sells their product too. They have a free alternative though, it’s called Fedora Core.
Finally, remember to include Linux users in your prayers tonight. As individuals we may not be able to change people’s minds, but the Bible teaches that God can make any sinner repent.
I will pray that there will become more Linux users.
Also I would like to mention that Apple’s ‘Mac Os X’ is a real threat, too. This damn extrem leftwing company is giving millions to the democ-rats!!!

Mac OS isn’t a real thread, without it you probably wouldn’t have any commercials (which support your “superior” capitalistic system), Mac OS is mostly used as a workspace for (semi)profesional graphics.

Yes, Linux is a primative European clone; It is much less capable than Windows. In fact it omits features that were standard in Windows back in 1998; For example Linux has no built-in anti-virus or anti-spyware software.
You cannot even buy popular utilities like Norton Security to compensate for this fact. There are no tools for common tasks like defragging a hard disk. God knows what you would use to send a fax or make a website. You cannot even get Front Page for Linux.
Why isn’t there any anti-virus or anti-spyware program, because it isn’t needed! Once again linux is more secure then Windows.
You also don’t need a defragging program because Linux has algoritms that don’t fragmentate files.
Last off all:
You shouldn’t confuse a hacker with a cracker, a hacker is someone that hacks because he wants to show that there is a security leak. A cracker hacks for personal benefit, crackers mostly use security holes that are found by hackers too.
