[Editor's Note - One of our interns at?STR.com noticed an influx of users coming from?a site run by Nintendo, the makers of the?Playstation.? Someone had run across an article written last May entitled Video Games - Criminal?Training for Liberal Teens.? As non-believers, they left mocking comments, disparaging the article, this website and God.
While we are used to such behavior from the sinful and confused, the attack took us by surprise.? At the editors meeting today we talked and prayed about how best to approach this situation.? Closing down the site until the storm blew over was not, of course, an option.? You claim that we all came from a Nintendo site. That isn’t really true seeing as how insanely dumb blogs like yours generally reach the internet’s attention through forums and not actual video game companies.
In this case the forums were likely based in the video game community and in my case a Half-Life 2 mod forum.

No one communicates exclusively with 1337 speek. Why? because it`s annoying (not to mention time consuming) to translate it to correct english. Most of the time it is used to joke, or simply to annoy people, and I`ve seen some who use it to avoid scripts (like “pr0n” instead of “porn”, for example).
It is never used as an actual language. It also has a few variations OMG/ZOMG, OWNED/PWNED, lol/lawl, etc.
