Not so long ago STR and I drew a great deal of fire from aggressive Linux using zealots for the ?crime? of pointing out that using Linux is contrary to the very spirit of American free enterprise. Such was the weight of this criticism that I was forced to re-examine my claims. Could I have got it wrong? Could over a thousand comments be incorrect?
No, we were not wrong - just as the Linux using trolls who like to bully sensible family-oriented conservative groups like ShelleyTheRepublican were trying to convince us that Linux is as American as Apple-Pie, it?s founder and long-time enemy of free-enterprise was busy selling Linux to known terrorists and members of what our President calls the Axis of Evil.
RMS as he likes to be known to his hacker friends has convinced Cuba, one of the most evil nations of the entire world to adopt Linux as it?s official operating system. Henceforth the communist party which controls all aspects of life in this despotic regime of pure evil has made it illegal to buy the American made Microsoft Windows. Cubans who are denied freedom of choice by the repressive Marxist government are no longer allowed to buy Windows, because according to Fidel Castro, it is a ?product of our imperialist oppressor?. Why does Castro hate America? Why does he forbid Cubans from importing great American products like Windows Vista?Please do not take my word for it, instead read what Rob Enderle, principal analyst of the Enderle group has to say about this matter. As a result of this campaigning Iran now has a ?LUG?, a forum for pro-linux activism. Would they have achieved this if they had not first been provided with American technology to copy? Should we be comfortable that stolen American trade-secrets which have been put into Linux are now in our enemies hands?
These Cubans may appear harmless, but will that still be the case now that they have access to the stolen Linux technology? The USA once almost had to bomb the heck out of this trouble-making rogue-state, are they driving us to war once again? We Americans pray for peace every day, but unprovoked aggression cannot be ignored.

Funny article! But just a quick note to folks who take this stuff seriously and actually might think that Linux is a threat to God-fearing Americans… relax! Linux has benefited the US military far more than it will ever benefit that some little third-world flyspeck of a nation that poses zero threat to us Americans.
Go to a military base or military research lab, and you’ll find Linux all over the place. In my lab alone, Linux has saved our projects (and taxpayers) many thousands of dollars, allowing us to deliver products/services to the military that we could never have delivered otherwise (given our limited funding). We who work for the US military would rather use taxpayer dollars to make America stronger than to make Bill Gates richer. And that’s why we use Linux!

Linux is JUST an operating system, like Mac and Windows. I sell Linux solutions (holy shit - capitalism!) and the formula is simple: I charge less than Windows solutions and I keep more (higher margin). Therefore more money stays in the local economy instead of being sent to the other coast. This is a good thing!

1. Many people that have their error of reason proven publically but are too ignorant to realize it often feel bullied.
2. Linus, to my knowledge, has never sold a distribution to anyone.
3. Quoting Mr. Enderle out of context then providing a link to his original article so we skeptics can think for ourselves is very foolish.
4. Did it ever cross your mind that the axis of evil can build atomic weapons using Windows too? And they already have Windows? (spooky huh) Also, your quote:

It appears that the software for your blog is WorldPress, this is open source software like linux and they recomend using Apache, PHP and MySQL also open source software. Here is there info http://wordpress.org/about . I would bet that the server that your blog is running on is a Linux server. Do you know what a server is??
Also, you have a link for the Gizmo voip software. Um…Gizmo is an open source project sponsored by Linspire which you can tell by the name is a Linux company.
I guess if I were you I would get rid of the Gizmo link and move my blog to a host that uses Microsoft software, good luck finding one.

Your viewpoints are humorous, but at what cost? Ironically, you accurately reflect your nation’s foreign policy (which is humorous in itself, in a tragic and sad sort of way). The bad side to your humor is that *some* of your countrymen (country-persons?) will take it seriously, propagating the nightmare of this mental illness. And this type of swaggering, might-is-right, us-vs.-them thinking is destroying our ability to coexist on this world, which we are incidentally destroying for the same reasons. These attitudes are not limited to the USA, but the USA is certainly VERY influential, and could well set an example for the rest of the world (instead of being feared and despised by many countries).
The thinking behind open-source software is a lesson in thinking in a way that can solve MANY problems that we have caused for ourselves (though ignorance and greed). People throughout the world exchanging and participating in improving a gift which makes life better and easier, and which brings us closer together. You are given the gift because you are valuable as a human being (with no strings attached). Of course, blood-sucking corporations like Microsoft do not like this idea, as they are busy convincing people that the only valuable thing about them are their wallets - which are then rapidly emptied into Gates and Balmer’s badly-swollen bank vaults (yes, those two waif’s really need the sustenance). How would you react if I told you that Columbian drug lords had started a charity to give a small portion of the proceeds from their crimes to feed the poor? The Gates foundation is not so very different; ill-gotten gains distributed while smiling for the camera. And these gains were obtained in the great capitalist tradition of screwing others out of their intellectual property (but in a nice philanthropic manner, I would assume…).
The combination of US foreign policy and Microsoft’s greed is indeed beginning to backfire, as open-standards and open-source are now being selected by many, many governments throughout the world (including many in the USA). Really, your country is not trusted, so WHY would anyone purchase or use a closed-source Microsoft software product - a product which you have NO WAY of knowing WHAT THE HELL IS ON IT (but one that you can rest assured is full of security holes and God-knows-what-else form of designed-in spyware and DRM infestations). This even thought windows it the most widely “stolen” software package in the world. Maybe if they charged reasonable prices, more people would buy it. Maybe if they didn’t feel the need to monitor everyones computer, more people would willingly switch to Vista. Linux is free, and for some people with older computers, will soon be the only option. I really don’t see Linux ever passing Windows as the operating system of choice for most, because there are too many dolts out there that just want to turn their system on and surf the web and have somebody else load all their security updates…… How Linux became an “Un-American” operating system is beyond my comprehension.

Further more not all linux is cost free. For buisness uses it often has (albeit less expensive than MS) licesensing that comes with support etc… Not only that linux and UNIX have become synonimous, and UNIX has been around and been the industrial standard for 30+yrs… WTF are you talking about? Add on top of that with infinitely increased costs, MS doesn’t come out with features in their Windows, present under linux until years after they are implemnted…this too was not addressed in the article. And let us not mention that Microsoft Just got a big contract for Iraq at the end of 2003.
Is anyone aware that MS just recently started in the webserver market? Have any of the “paitriots” on this site been made aware that over 75% of the internet is hosted on UNIX/linux machines for very good reasons? You know what else I love about this article, is that Apple, a good capitalistic company with better moral standing than MS (and it’s documented plainly), never got a mention. I work in the IT industry, and I can say for certain that Linux, UNIX, Mac OSes are what you use if you need to get things done and you don’t want them to break. Linux is the choice of professionals. Lucky us we don’t have to grab our Ankles for MS.

I am a good Christian (a Mormon to be more precise) and I hate any violance, but these European catholic commies are driving me mad. Some time ago I’v read a historical book about Cold war. To my surprise (well, It wasn’t such a big surprise after all) I’v learned, that we had sufficient amount of nuclear bombs a long time before any other nation gained (/stole) a neclear strike capability. Of course, we hadn’t enaugh bombers (specialized for nuclear bombs delivery), and protection of our airport in Asia wouldn’t last long enaugh for the second wave but these were only secondary reasons.
The main reason was, that our leaders were afraid and that they took pitty of thou Linux producing commie bastards. I say it was a great mistake not to bomb all those trolls. We could have peace now! But no, we retreated, risked nuclear war later a now we are literally drowned in all that inferior open-source software!
