Thought of the day : 44 : Fred Phelps : Controversial Church Leader
Dear Readers
Since when is it not OK to voice an unpopular opinion in America? I certainly can agree with Fred Phelps and his family, he speaks his mind and does not back down because most others disagree with him. That is what the Freedom of Speech is all about! We don’t need the Freedom of Speech for swapping recopies and liberal TV game shows. We need to make sure that everybody keeps the right to speak out! The Fred Phelps community has become the victim of liberal hate-attacks and that is just not right. If you disagree with him, don’t listen to him, period!
Militant gays attacked the Phelps church. I don’t care what Fred said, people that attack the house of God are my enemies!

Thank you Shelley. While I cannot agree with 100% of Westboro Baptist Church’s statements, we Republicans stand for freedom of speech and sensible debate.
The Republican party is a broad church, united by our love of God, and our desire to restore the golden age of American morality. Rather than condemn Fred Phelpes (as the liberals almost universally do), we should welcome him into the great debate about how Conservatives are going to repair all the harm that Democrats and foreigners have done to our great nation.
Liberals as-ever focus on the controversial aspects of Mr Phelpes ministry, however for every one disagreeable thing he says, he says nine quite sensible things. I think if most Americans took the time to listen to Fred, they would see that he is a very reasonable and caring man:
For example, his uncompromising stand against the threat posed by Homosexuals is something that every conservative can agree with. Which American can deny God’s hatred of homosexuals - the bible clearly states our lord’s disgust for the gays. Why is this even considered controversial?

This is culturally insensitive language and certainly not the way to convince people about the righteousness of your beliefs. You do not hear Jesus cussing like that, ever. Still, I did learn one thing about the Devil.

Personally because the church that got attacked is advocating violence and discriminatory legislation I think they should be investigated as potential terrorists.

A defense of the people with the website http://www.godhatesamerica.com ? The site that wants 3,000,000+ US soldiers to die in Iraq? And they hold protests at soldiers’ funerals? And they claimed Cho was part of God’s punishment on the USA for not making homosexuality punishable by the death penalty? And they claimed dead US soldiers in Iraq and the 32 that died at Virginia Tech are burning in Hell? Defending America hating fundamentalist psychopaths when you’re allegedly ultra-flag waving “conservatives”? Now you’re so obviously joking!

The only thing that goes too far imo: Protesting at soldier??ɂİ?Ǭ¨?Ǭ•s funerals. Sorry, but I have the opinion that one should respect someone who has passed away. Especially if he did so for his country!

I wonder what you would do if it was your child that died in the war or was killed in the shooting. Would you protest at your own child’s funeral? or say that it was in God’s plan that your child should have died? These people have family and friends that care about them. Even if you are against them for whatever reason you have, it’s so wrong to do that at their funeral. They’re dead. There family and friends are beyond sad and you have the nerve to protest it? You are going straight to hell.

Phelps can say whatever he wants. That so-called church can say whatever they want. But there is a time and place for everything and a funeral for a soldier that was fighting for their rights to be able to protest is not the time nor the place.
It is clear that the Phelps are anti-American and hate America. Why would they love something THEY claim God hates? That want soldiers dead? Thats screwed up.

Now they have let everyone aware of them. There is several states that has already put in affect that NO protestings can be with-in so many feet for so many hours before, during, and after a funeral.

I’m sorry but the Westboro people have zero respect for human life. People can believe what they want, but anyone with morals would know not to go to the extreme that they do. For example, the Matthew Shepard and VT incidents— what if someone from the Westboro group had a child that was brutally murdered? I would bet money that they wouldn’t want insensitive, immoral people picketing at their child’s funeral. It seems that they’re just doing these things to anger and upset other people for their own twisted reasons. And for the Westboro people and anybody who is horrific enough to support them…GET A CLUE…one of the Ten Commandments is NOT to commit murder. The Westboro people go to extremes because they want publicity for their own selfish reasons.

WOW! Just wow! Loads of hate all in one forum. I feel sorry for you Buck, for all that has happened in your life. I study sociology at a souther university (not saying for safety) and I’m doing a report on the Westboro Church (spawned as a result of current Heath Ledger incident). It saddens me to see someone with so much hate built inside, and to see so many people who support that hate. Hate is a self-imploding mindset. In the long run, you will only hurt yourself, via ulcers or other stress related problems. You can start to undo this taught behavior to bring yourself a much more humble and healthy future. You just need to realize that hate is now the minority and you will not be shunned by society for undoing the damage of prejudice. Any response is appreciated, and may influence the final outcome of my assignment.
