Is “Science Fiction” harming your kids?

Today I’d like to discuss something which many of you will at first dismiss as harmless escapism, but when you look deeper you learn that nothing could be further from the truth. I’m talking about Science Fiction.

If you are not familiar with the genre, do not worry: Very little has changed since it was invented 50 years ago by Isaac Asimov and L. Ron Hubbard. These two men created the first ?Scifi? (pronounced see-fee) books as a crazy of bet: They dared each other to concoct the most preposterous nonsense in order to see if American kids would buy it.

Unfortunately for us they did, and in great quantities. Hubbard’s writing would eventually become the inspiration for Scientology ? the official religion of Hollywood ? meanwhile Asimov’s work would found an industry dedicated to ‘freaking out’ a generation of American teens.

300x383aspx.jpeg

SciFi fans at a ‘con’: Every year addicts of this sort of nonsense gather to celebrate their degrading affliction. The man on the left is dressed as a sort of futuristic space-man, whereas the woman on the left is clearly in the attire of a space-whore.

Today, science-fiction is big business: Most large sized book-stores devote an entire shelf to science fiction and fantasy, guaranteeing authors of scifi books untold riches and a lifestyle which allows them to push their dangerous ideology on easily influenced teens.

Science fiction topics range from space-aliens to space-ships, all the way to space-villains and fantastical space-ninjas (above) . Many readers avidly consume these other-worldly nightmares, indeed the reviews often tout such books as ?mind altering? - exactly the same kind of words often used to describe illegal narcotics. Is it any wonder why kids who read them seem “spaced out”?

Unfortunately the liberal take-over of the Internet is bringing the danger of Science-fiction into our homes and into your children’s bedrooms:

We have recently become aware of a podcast called ?Escape Pod?. It’s name might suggest harmless escapism, but it’s really an audio faith-breaking machine. Every week, it’s editor Steve Eley, himself a corrupted science-fiction writer, introduces the show by bragging about all of the women has ’sexed-up’, and then introduces one of his stories which are contributed by a cartel of fiction-pushers.

space_precinct1.jpg

A typical Escape-Pod listener. He has rejected Christ and is dead to the world. Is this what you want for your kids? For America?

These outlandish tales are often full of vivid, perverse sexual imagery, violence or excessive cussing. The stories are frequently amoral, with protagonists rewarded for their sinful behavior. Furthermore when God is mentioned, it is usually to take his Holy name in vain. The end-result is a shameful and grotesque fantasy nightmare. It’s more horrific than anything that could come form Hollywood’s sick imagination.

If only this were the full extent of the sci-fi problem: There are now hundreds of web-sites offering readers a quick fix of fantasy. As with drug pushers the first hit is always free, which is why you can find authors offering hundreds of short-stories and even entire novels available as a free download. This is clearly an incentive to coerce your kids into buying-into their degrading fantasies.

We at STR.com say enough is enough, and that is why I’ve compiled some parenting tips to help you ensure that your kids remain unharmed by scifi:

  • Check what your kids have on their bookshelf. Look out for authors such as Cory Doctorw, Jeffery R DeRego, Mur Lafferty or Mike Resnik. If you see books by these authors you should burn them immediately, better still insist your child burn them himself.
  • If your kid has an iPod ask him if he uses it to listen to stories. If it contains any harmful outlandish ‘Escape Pod’ fiction you’d better burn the iPod as well just to be safe.
  • If your kid likes to read, make sure their shelves are stocked with books that are steeped in the Blood of Christ. I recommend the thrilling ?Left Behind? novels by Tim LaHaye or “That Hideous Strength” by C. S. Lewis. It’s probably one of the best books written by the best author ever.

  • Finally, if your kid has been reading the notorious atheist troublemaker Philip Pullman’s anti-Christian trash called ?The Golden Compass? I suggest that you contact STR ministries immediately. We have devised a faith restoration program that can bring even the most troubled teens back to Jesus.

@Jimmy (and Shelley, and all patriots here at STR):

Have you heard of the news? The evil satanic forces guiding the Russian hacker group FSF and European hippies called “Creative Commons” joined forces in their ever-increasing attempt to destroy the American way of life!

Apparently they are combining their soul-selling licenses (which, I hear, reads something like “By reading or talking about this work of art, you agree to sell your soul to Our Master Satan”. I was only glad enough that it didn’t say “by listening”, and of course I was never going to read anything licensed by FSF or Creative Commons again.) to increase their soul-destroying powers.

And I have it on good authority that their next step is to force everyone else to use their Satanic license, whether they want to or not. Apparently I have to license my email under this abominable “license” if the email ever goes through one of those God-damned Russian hackware Linux (which is also licensed under the same demonic terms), or they are going to sue me for damages in $200,000, and you know that there are enough Satanists out their that my email is bound to touch their Satanic machines even if I don’t want it to.

You guys at STR the only ones I can trust now—please tell us how to resist these demonic forces.

    “STR ministries immediately.”

Lulz, this line caught my eye, that’s funny.

I’ve read sci-fi for years. I’m still here and no one has ran from me screaming like I’m a hideous monster, so it seems that I’ve stayed human. IT would be cool if you would actually *read* said sci-fi before you judged it, ever hear “don’t about judging a book by it’s cover”? Read some emotional sci-fi like Ai-Ren or something, it shows what may happen to our world if we continue following your kind of thinking. Also it is a *GREAT* story.

PS. I’m using Kubuntu with Firefox, by Tristan and your theories, I couldn’t see the site right, looks like it does if not better than on IE 7.

    “futuristic space-man”
    -That’d be Megaman bro.

    “fantastical space-ninjas”
-Power Rangers? It got kinda ridiculous after the first few seasons… the whole Time and Space theme was lame…

“If your kid has an iPod ask him if he uses it to listen to stories. If it contains any harmful outlandish ?¢‚ǨÀúEscape Pod?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢ fiction you?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢d better burn the iPod as well just to be safe.”
-That would be such a waste of a decent to good mp3 player…

Worst book I ever read was a re-telling of the story of Noah’s Ark called; ‘Not Wanted on the Voyage’ by Timothy Findley… it was horrible. It was epically horrible. It made me recommend the book to others so they could see what an acid trip would be like.

Other than that I’m too lazy today to really combat the article so… as a sci-fi author I say you’re wrong… and I’ll dig up reasons when I’m less tired.

    “?¢‚Ǩ?ìScifi?¢‚Ǩ¬ù (pronounced see-fee)”

Learn to talk jerkoff, it’s pronounced “sigh-fi”

“Scientology ?¢‚Ǩ‚Äú the official religion of Hollywood”

    ?!?!

“Every year addicts of this sort of nonsense gather to celebrate their degrading affliction”

What affliction retard? They read books, whoopie-doo!

“The man on the left is dressed as a sort of futuristic space-man”

    A.K.A Megaman

“the woman on the left is clearly in the attire of a space-whore.”

Doesn’t look very sci-fi to me, looks more like clothes a teen would wear to go partying.

“guaranteeing authors of scifi books untold riches”

    Not every author makes it.

“to push their dangerous ideology on easily influenced teens.”

It’s a BOOK you dumb schmuck.

    “fantastical space-ninjas (above) .”

    What? Power Rangers?

“reviews often tout such books as ?¢‚Ǩ?ìmind altering?¢‚Ǩ¬ù - exactly the same kind of words often used to describe illegal narcotics.”

Altering? Boggling maybe, but altering, forget the same page, it’s not even in the same damn library.

“Unfortunately the liberal take-over of the Internet is bringing the danger of Science-fiction into our homes and into your children?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s bedrooms”

There is no danger, how many people died from watching/reading starwars? Oh, and the books get into your house anyway, so that point is invalid.

    “A typical Escape-Pod listener”

Wtf?! Looks like the emperor from starwars.

“If your kid has an iPod ask him if he uses it to listen to stories. If it contains any harmful outlandish ?¢‚ǨÀúEscape Pod?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢ fiction you?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢d better burn the iPod as well just to be safe.”

What a waste of money, if you are that paraniod about sci-fi, you could just delete the stuff you don’t want

There is the smell of bullshit on the air…

  6. Link48010 December 2nd, 2007 4:32 am

    “Lewis?! Lewis?! He SUCKS!”

I honestly have to disagree. If we are talking about he same C. S. Lewis that I’m thinking of (Chronicals of Narnia) he is an incredible writer. Not on the level of some like Vladimir Nabokov or others like Stephen King, but many of his books are fantastic. Some can get kinda preachy, the thing I hate about most avid religious writers (that’s any religion), but for the most part, I love stories like his.

  7. Wraith December 2nd, 2007 4:38 am

Meh… Stephen King got lazy… his newer books have no panache, no soul.

Though the Dark Tower series was good… I’m waiting on the movie of it…

Science fiction was invented 50 years ago and all the stories are about outer space? That’s funny! Jules Verne wrote science fiction novels(20,000 Leagues Under the Sea,Journey To the Center of the Earth) in the 19th Century! Science fiction a liberal plot? There have been libertarian Sci-Fi authors such as the late Robert Heinlein (Starship Troopers, Stranger In a Strange Land) and Pro-Second Amendment writer L.Neil Smith: http://www.lneilsmith.org

  10. Proud German December 2nd, 2007 3:02 pm

I honestly pray that Jimmy never, ever, ever gets to learn to know the Warhammer 40.000 universe. Really, that article would be awful. (Yet funny.)

“If you are not familiar with the genre, do not worry: Very little has changed since it was invented 50 years ago by Isaac Asimov and L. Ron Hubbard.”

It?Ǭ¥s older than that by far.

PS: C. S: Lewis? I had the discomfort of reading one of his books. I even managed it to get through halfway before I had to stop out of a mixture of disgust, headaches and sheer boredom. Damn, the WH 40k novel 15 Hours was bad, but compared to Lewis, it?Ǭ¥s fun to read.

And Sci-Fi being liberal-exclusive? Robert Heinlein. If that guy was a liberal, so too was Ronald Reagan. Period.

Robert Heinlein’s novels are a morass of communist and degenerate ideas. Where do you get your information from? Wikipedia? Source of a thousand liberal lies…

  12. LeftTurn December 2nd, 2007 3:20 pm

Interesting that they condemn Asimov (who, surprise surprise, is dead) even though he wrote a number of theological books as well.

“Finally, if your kid has been reading the notorious atheist troublemaker Philip Pullman?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s anti-Christian trash called ?¢‚Ǩ?ìThe Golden Compass?¢‚Ǩ¬ù I suggest that you contact STR ministries immediately. Interesting… Pullman’s books heavily criticize the dogmatism and oppression of organized religious institutions (so sayeth the Archbishop of Canterbury). The way that statement parallels one of the central themes of His Dark Materials is scary to the nth degree.

yeah, that just sounds like a reason to get your hands on children!
if we want to get into fiction let’s talk religious fiction. god was some dude who was stoned who led people who were also stoned to belive that he had supernatural powers.
Check what your kids have on their bookshelf. Look out for authors such as Cory Doctorw, Jeffery R DeRego, Mur Lafferty or Mike Resnik. If you see books by these authors you should burn them immediately, better still insist your child burn them himself.
what about female children? with the book burning thing do you want to re-create 1930-40’s germany? you religious nut, you people are a mix of nazi’s and KKK you fucking redneck twat who should get an education past kindergarten. and even if you did you would forget it when you shot up the next time and would have to do it all again.
so fuck off you fucking jyuu baka!

  14. jimmygoddard December 2nd, 2007 3:57 pm

    what about female children?

Simple, It’s a well known fact that females are not interested in Science Fiction - it’s mainly boys and men who have not given up their childish ways who continue to read this trash.

“When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things.” - Corintians Chapter 13, verse 11.

Uhm, not always so. I know girls who are just as avid about sci-fi as I or anyone else. And despite the stereo type, no they are not ugly buck teethed red heads.

“Simple, It?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s a well known fact that females are not interested in Science Fiction”
-Uh… that’s kinda not true at all…. Most of the people who have read the same books as I are girls I met either through acting, or school… In fact, in my experience, women like sci-fi more than men but I’m certain that in reality it’s a 50/50 split.

Women do sometimes read science fiction. But they are terrible at writing it. Proof? The awful liberal ramblings of Doris Lessing. Terrible stuff.

“Women do sometimes read science fiction. But they are terrible at writing it. Proof? The awful liberal ramblings of Doris Lessing. Terrible stuff.”

So by that standard, *some* sci-fi is good. No not all women are terrible at writing sci-fi, just look at CLAMP, the all female writing team of Chobits and Card Captor Sakura, both of which are great mangas.

  19. german gothboy December 2nd, 2007 5:51 pm

ok jimmy NOgoddard most of the chicks I know are into sci-fi and most of them are pretty fine. and also sci-fi is not childish! most children wouldn’t understand sci-fi so get over it you fucking junkie

  20. Thomas December 2nd, 2007 7:40 pm

Ok, Jimmy, then what about this:

?¢‚Ǩ?ìLet the children come to me! Don’t try to stop them. People who are like these children belong to God’s kingdom. People who are like these children belong to God’s kingdom: You will never get into God’s kingdom unless you enter it like a child!?¢‚Ǩ¬ù
    - Luke 18 verse 16,17

So seems like we should all just read sci-fi as children, and we’ll get into Heaven. Cool!

    ” I recommend the thrilling ?¢‚Ǩ?ìLeft Behind?¢‚Ǩ¬ù novels by Tim LaHaye or ?¢‚Ǩ?ìThat Hideous Strength?¢‚Ǩ¬ù by C. S. Lewis. ”
are sci-fi. Anyone that hasn’t and is actually taking this seriously realy should take a look at themselves.

  22. Shorty December 2nd, 2007 8:46 pm

    Dear Thomas,

    > So seems like we should all just read sci-fi as children, and we?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢ll get into Heaven. Cool!

I couldn’t help but notice your poor understanding of the scripture. Maybe this little motto will help you understand better: “We should be childlike, not childish.”

Being childlike is good, but childish things like throwing tantrum and reading Sci-Fi is not good.

Children get into heaven DESPITE their childishness, because their age excuses them from such lapses of judgment. We grown-ups, on the other hand, have to be childlike without being childish. I will not say that we won’t get into heaven because of our childishness, because I would rather not contradict the grace of God, but I will say that if one insists on being childish when he knows better, he is very close to sinning against the Holy Spirit, which, as Jesus says, is an unforgiveable sin, not even by his blood.

P.S. The actual mechanics of how that works is very interesting. I will talk more if any would listen with open mind, but I have philosophical stance against talking to a wall.

  23. That Dude December 2nd, 2007 9:46 pm

“Women do sometimes read science fiction. But they are terrible at writing it. Proof? The awful liberal ramblings of Doris Lessing. Terrible stuff.”

I’m not really into Sci-Fi at all, but Madeleine L’Engle is an amazing author, who, in my opinion blows the socks off of C.S. Lewis.

“?¢‚Ǩ?ìThat Hideous Strength?¢‚Ǩ¬ù by C. S. Lewis. It?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s probably one of the best books written by the best author ever”

Maybe true, I’ve read it, but it’s yet to become a favorite…but keep in mind, it’s the third book in what’s called the “Cosmic Trilogy.” It’s about travel in space, aliens, technology, and science. That sounds pretty Sci-Fi to me…

Also, wtf is with you calling Sci-Fi childish? Most of the books in the Sci-Fi genre are recommended for adults. If we’re talking about fairy tales and/or fantasy, you could maybe have a case, even though most central-European fairy tales I know are pretty scarry and equally deep.

  24. LeftTurn December 2nd, 2007 11:01 pm

“it?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s mainly boys and men who have not given up their childish ways who continue to read this trash.”

You tell me with a straight face that Arthur C. Clarke writes kids’ stuff.

  25. Lance Johnson December 3rd, 2007 2:23 pm

And for the second time, you guys knock my career…if you ever find yourselves in possession of proof that science fiction is harmful, I’d love to hear it. ‘Till then, keep your religious paranoia to yourselves. I’m not hurting anyone; the stories I try to tell are just that. Stories. Fiction. I’m not pushing anything on people, aside from maybe a fun jaunt through a world that can never exist. If they turn down something fun and possibly inspiring, that’s good; they’re not the audience I’m writing for.

  26. Richard 23 December 4th, 2007 5:43 am

Isn’t that space man actually “penis hands man?”

Are you sure that isn’t a picture from a porn convention?

“Many readers avidly consume these other-worldly nightmares”

So, you read this and yet at the same time you follow the Bible, which has the story of David and Goliath. The power rangers always fought against opponents stronger than themselves and came out victoriously, they are merely the moder incarnation of the same theory, that if someone embraces a good ideal (in their case teamwork and courage) they can accomplish anything and overcome evil. Notice a few similarities here.

O…M…F…G… I didn’t see this till just now. “Space Man” is MegaMan, a character with an awesome video game series (at least the old ones like Megaman Legends). That chick there has nothing to do with anything I’ve ever read/played/watched. If memory serves, it was Roll (Blond in bright red clothing) that serviced Megaman (I’m a fan of the legend games :P). Originally Megamans name was Rock, so it was Rock and Roll. You should read some history/info on what your insulting. http://www.gamespot.com/features/6076983/index.html
