I am, in fact, American. I don’t personally like guns, but I understand the need for them. This does not mean that I support having guns anywhere near children or anyone too young or immature to handle them properly. (That includes Blackwater’s mercenaries.)
how is it that some number of large men wielding pistols supposed to make kids less scared of guns? one of two things are going to happen,
1) they will get even more terrified of guns or
2) they already like guns and will want one themselves

I think I mentioned this elsewhere, but I find it kind of funny when others use ‘fag’ as an insult, or any other shots about sexuality, because it just proves their own ignorance. Ignorance often, though not always, goes hand in hand with a childlike unwillingness to accept change, and learn. So I don’t mind if such terms are thrown around, just makes the user look like a childish prejudiced jackass.

As an Anglican who is currently taking a double major in Literature and Theology, I feel that I am enough of a “true Christian” to argue this one.
The New Testament is separated from the Old Testament because it was written in a different language, and, for the first few hundred years of Christianity, not considered scripture as such. Those who wrote the New Testament regarded the Old Testament as the only scriptures, and used Paul, Luke, and Peter’s letters as interpretive and historical texts. The New Testament is a record of the happenings which surrounded the Third Covenant that God made with his people (the first was the Adamic covenant, and the second was the Mosaic covenant).
Jesus also said specifically that his purpose was not to abolish the Law, but to fulfill it. This fulfillment did not remove the authority of the Mosaic covenant, but simply took away the need for sacrifice in order to fulfill it temporarily.
Jesus also said “You have heard it said. ‘You shall love your neighbour and hate your enemy.’ But I say to you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you.”
Now, I’m just a simple literature guy, but to me, that sounds a lot like a no-violence policy. The same is true throughout the New Testament. If you want violence, go to the Old Testament: that’s where the action is.
