The definitive review of Ubuntu 8.04 “Hardy Herron”

According to the socialists who make Ubuntu Linux, a new version of their somewhat popular operating system is to be released tomorrow: It’s been just over a year since Microsoft released Windows Vista ? the question on everybody’s lips is have the Ubuntu people managed to catch up with Microsoft’s flagship product? Is Linux finally ready for the desktop or is it still little more than a plaything for unemployed nerds?

Linux, as we all know, began life as a hobbyist operating system ? invented by conspiracy theorist Richard ?Stalin? Stallman (above) so that he could have an operating system that was just as unfriendly as confusing as his word-processor ?e-Macs?.

For more facts about Ubuntu Linux, please read the article entitled “Ubuntu: Why it is wrong for America” by STR’s lead technology contributor Charles Roast. This was the very first article to deflate much of the liberal media hype that surrounds the Ubuntu bubble.

In recent years Linux has suffered a major set-back following the shock revelations form SCO Group, whose software had been stolen wholesale and incorporated into illegal distributions of Linux. For the past five years, the overwhelming effort of Linux developers has gone into removing SCO’s intellectual property from the Linux operating system ? but as the threat of litigation has subsided many users are asking once-again if Linux is a serious contender?

Unfortunately, the answer is mostly a no: We downloaded the latest ?beta? of Ubuntu’s operating system and were once again very disappointed: It looks almost exactly the same as the previous version lacking any of the visual style, reliability and advanced features of the industry standard Windows Vista.

We decided to look under the hood of Linux to see if this ‘Samizdat’ operating system concealed any notable secrets. According to the anonymous ?.t.xt? file that came with the disk this OS had a new feature called ?Completely Fair Scheduler? - after a great deal of research we were able to conclude that this was an attempt to bring the principles of Marxism onto your PC. The Linux nerds are upset that some people have faster computers than others, so this new feature takes processing power from fast computers and donates them to people who have slower computers.

Windows users have no need of the “Completely Fair Scheduler” because we have modern scheduling software such as Microsoft Outlook (above). Outlook allows you to give your time to whoever you want, regardless of any socialist definitions of ‘fairness’.

If you object to this communism, tough luck: The so-called ?Completely Fair Scheduler? is incorporated into the ?kernel? ( which is the Linux equivalent of the MS Dos layer in older versions of windows). This ?feature? alone is enough to frighten serious users away from the upstart operating system. Unfortunately there is far more cause for alarm:

One of the great things about Windows is the ease of obtaining powerful utilities and applications. In addition to hundreds of great titles available on CD-ROM you can download awesome shareware applications:

Simply click on Setup.exe and most installers will instantly deploy your chosen software, sometimes with cool bonus productivity apps that enhance your browsing experience. In comparison with Microsoft’s common-sense approach, pandemonium reigns on the Linux platform.

The only way to install software is via a tool called the ?package manager? which is confusingly also called ?Synaptic?. This works according to a similar principle as a communist super-market: You have a limited range of software which has been chosen on a purely ideological basis rather than functionality. If you want to ?think different?, it’s tough-luck again: Another obvious fail for the ‘contender’.

To make matters worse, in order to install an application you must be ?root? which entails memorizing a series of confusing passwords. By contrast Windows allows any user to install the applications they need to do their work ? a wise productivity gain that endears the flexible NT platform to IT departments the world over.

Finally we notice that Ubuntu Linux is the first OS to come bundled with software that runs Bit-torrent: As we previously reported this is software used by European pirates to rip off American industry and steal bandwidth from telcos to distribute porn. Once again we should compare Window’s sensible bundling strategy, in which only basic system tools such as a web-browser are integrated into the core-operating system. What on earth possessed the Linux kernel developers to add ?low-level? support for BitTorrent, unless of course this is a European plan to incriminate us all.

In summary, Ubuntu Linux is still not yet ready for the Desktop. Our recommendation is to take a rain check on this release: Commercial and educated power-users will no doubt avoid this system because of it’s dangerous ideological bias, lack of quality software and out-dated technology.

We do feel that the new release of Ubuntu Linux will have moderate success playing to it’s core-audience: It will provide an entertaining diversion for hackers in-between prison sentences.

    Sara Carter,
did you actually READ the article above? If this is not quite enough information, I suggest you read all of these articles:

    Young Jimmy,
wonderful article. You have a way of explaining complicated stuff to the non-technical person that is very delightful. Thanks so much for your work.

As for Ubuntu: My God, what a piece of filth software. Ubuntu is including piracy software as well as hacker tools and I need a “synaptic” installer in order to install applications. How stupid, how criminal.

As for Christian Operation Systems, there are many real ones out there like for example:

I bought an old PC from a friend who wanted to keep his Windows 98 license, and therefore wiped out the hard drive before handing it to me over.
It was a good deal, but still I’m in debt now until I pay the whole thing off.
The PC is low-spec and Windows XP will barely run (grind to a halt) on it. I’m not sure how Vista would do.
I looked on Amazon and Windows XP is $185 for Home Edition and $270 for Professional.
This is money I absolutely _cannot_ afford to spend, seeing that the only thing I need the PC for is e-mail.
I’m debating what operating system to put on my PC. I would have to say however that I don’t care about ideology and any of that stuff, as long as it saves me money.
    What is your recommendation?

Shelly I am sorry you aren’t smart enough to use Linux. But hey the world needs ditch diggers too. Ubuntu can be configured to look better than Vista Ultimate and the cost comparison is as follows - Vista Ultimate $300US VS Ubuntu $0US so if you are as bright a bulb as shelly avoid it, but on the other hand if have a few connected brain cells it is superior OS. Oh and at a recent hacker convention Mac & Vista were both hacked while Ubuntu was not, so enjoy your overpriced garbage OS.

I came here from Digg and I couldn?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢t believe what I read. I was expecting loads of comments picking apart this article, I even expect this article to be a joke as it could be. I have never come to this site before so I wouldn?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢t know if this is a joke.

    Where do I start?

?¢‚Ǩ?ìIn recent years Linux has suffered a major set-back following the shock revelations form SCO Group, whose software had been stolen wholesale and incorporated into illegal distributions of Linux. For the past five years, the overwhelming effort of Linux developers has gone into removing SCO?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s intellectual property from the Linux operating system ?¢‚Ǩ‚Äú but as the threat of litigation has subsided many users are asking once-again if Linux is a serious contender??¢‚Ǩ¬ù

The case was a bust for SCO and they went bankrupt because of it. Linux is safe from SCO.

“It looks almost exactly the same as the previous version lacking any of the visual style, reliability and advanced features of the industry standard Windows Vista.”

Yes it does look nearly the same, I mean you do have access to the 3d interface by default or you can go with the old 2d interface as the previous version(s). Mind you the 2D version is like windows XP, either one looks nice and works well. I like how you used reliability, what is this in regards of application crashes, system crashes driver support? I wouldn?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢t say Vista is reliable at all in many area?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s. Software is getting better, drivers are getting better, Vista wasn?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢t ready to be released and Microsoft messed up, they spent way to long developing the OS and even Steve Ballmer say they messed up.

Advanced features like what exactly? I wouldn?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢t say Vista is the industry standard because well its not. What industry are you referring to exactly? Mac I would say is the OS of choice for marketing, photo and video. Linux would have the industry for scientific, programming, education industries. Windows would have the industry for people that don?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢t know what they want as they use what is put on the new machine they bought.

I wouldn?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢t say Windows Vista is a industry standard, I would say Windows XP has the most market share and Vista is what Microsoft is forcing as a way to stay with Windows platform.

?¢‚Ǩ?ìWe decided to look under the hood of Linux to see if this ?¢‚ǨÀúSamizdat?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢ operating system concealed any notable secrets. According to the anonymous ?¢‚Ǩ?ì.t.xt?¢‚Ǩ¬ù file that came with the disk this OS had a new feature called ?¢‚Ǩ?ìCompletely Fair Scheduler?¢‚Ǩ¬ù - after a great deal of research we were able to conclude that this was an attempt to bring the principles of Marxism onto your PC. The Linux nerds are upset that some people have faster computers than others, so this new feature takes processing power from fast computers and donates them to people who have slower computers.?¢‚Ǩ¬ù

I have no idea how you can take a feature that allows for better application management on the OS to taking processing power away from a fast machine to another user that has a slow machine? Completely Fair Scheduler will allow applications to run better without slowing the system down or other applications down. I really don?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢t know how you and whoever else tested ?¢‚Ǩ?ìUbuntu Beta?¢‚Ǩ¬ù came up with this. Giving away CPU cycles to another user, amazing.

You didn?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢t seem to bring up the PolicyKit integration such a shame. This is a nice feature that will allow better lockdown and much improved security to the system IT administrators will love this.

?¢‚Ǩ?ìWindows users have no need of the ?¢‚Ǩ?ìCompletely Fair Scheduler?¢‚Ǩ¬ù because we have modern scheduling software such as Microsoft Outlook (above). Outlook allows you to give your time to whoever you want, regardless of any socialist definitions of ?¢‚ǨÀúfairness?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢.?¢‚Ǩ¬ù

Completely Fair Scheduler has nothing to do with appointments and time scheduling. Again I cant believe 1+ people that reviewed this came up with this line. Regardless Ubuntu comes with Evolution which is a very nice groupware client (like Outlook for Office). Evolution will allow the user to connect to the company exchange server, and other servers. Work with contacts, calendars, tasks. Has support for encryption to protect your emails and has other features but this is on par with Outlook 2003/2007.

?¢‚Ǩ?ìIf you object to this communism, tough luck: The so-called ?¢‚Ǩ?ìCompletely Fair Scheduler?¢‚Ǩ¬ù is incorporated into the ?¢‚Ǩ?ìkernel?¢‚Ǩ¬ù ( which is the Linux equivalent of the MS Dos layer in older versions of windows). This ?¢‚Ǩ?ìfeature?¢‚Ǩ¬ù alone is enough to frighten serious users away from the upstart operating system. Unfortunately there is far more cause for alarm:?¢‚Ǩ¬ù

The Linux Kernel is not equivalent to MS DOS. The Linux kernel controls process such as applications, memory management, device management such as your mouse and keyboard. Windows Vista has a kernel as does Mac OS. The Linux kernel is a very efficient piece of code that rarely crashes and is fast and uses very little resources. If your application crashes it won?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢t stop the Linux kernel from running.

?¢‚Ǩ?ìOne of the great things about Windows is the ease of obtaining powerful utilities and applications. In addition to hundreds of great titles available on CD-ROM you can download awesome shareware applications:?¢‚Ǩ¬ù

Yes I agree with windows installation programs are nice and make applications easy to install and remove, assuming the installation engineer created a working installer and uninstaller.

Yes you can buy a lot of good software for Windows such as Adobe Professional which allows you to create PDFs and modify then for a nice price of many hundreds of dollars. Again Office 2007 is very costly. This might come with your system, or you can buy this from the store. Just imagine, you buy Vista and you don?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢t get any software like Office, anything beyond basic photo management and photo editing tools. You will need to buy them if you want something decent, or you can search for something on the internet. Which could be faster then going too the store to buy the software and then install it, all assuming its compatible with Vista.

?¢‚Ǩ?ìThe only way to install software is via a tool called the ?¢‚Ǩ?ìpackage manager?¢‚Ǩ¬ù which is confusingly also called ?¢‚Ǩ?ìSynaptic?¢‚Ǩ¬ù. This works according to a similar principle as a communist super-market: You have a limited range of software which has been chosen on a purely ideological basis rather than functionality. If you want to ?¢‚Ǩ?ìthink different?¢‚Ǩ¬ù, it?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s tough-luck again: Another obvious fail for the ?¢‚ǨÀúcontender?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢.?¢‚Ǩ¬ù

This is not correct as you can install applications in many ways. You can use the package manager which will allow the user to search for an application or many, you can use this to see what you have installed, you can see what packages can be upgraded to the latest version. You can also uninstall applications from this tool also. But something you didn?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢t say is how many applications you can search through. About 23,000 active packages can be installed. The manager will allow you to filter through applications so you can find what you need quickly. All of these applications are free to use. Once you have selected your packages, the manager will download everything for you and install it.

You can also download package files such as Setup.deb this is just like Setup.exe as you can click on it and install it and even remove it.. You can download installer packages, again you click them and they install the application. You can also download the source of a special program and you can install it which just a few commands. This is normally left for more experienced users, but this isn?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢t to say someone can?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢t learn three commands.

?¢‚Ǩ?ìTo make matters worse, in order to install an application you must be ?¢‚Ǩ?ìroot?¢‚Ǩ¬ù which entails memorizing a series of confusing passwords. By contrast Windows allows any user to install the applications they need to do their work ?¢‚Ǩ‚Äú a wise productivity gain that endears the flexible NT platform to IT departments the world over.?¢‚Ǩ¬ù

Yes you do need to have administrative access to install applications and any applications that could cause your system to fail such as editing network settings or special configuration options. But the error above is you don?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢t need to remember anymore passwords and if you had to remember the root password this is ONE more password that you need to remember, not a ?¢‚Ǩ?ìseries?¢‚Ǩ¬ù of additional passwords. Once you login with the default user and you try and launch the package manager you are prompted for YOU?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢RE password then the launches if correct. So you are only remembering one password. This is also a security measure that will protect you, and you?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢re system which includes your DATA from attacks. This is a fault of Windows that everything is ran with administrative access this means if a person got control of your system via a installation package or viewing a website that is used to attack users then they have administrative access to your computer. They could do anything they wanted. Linux stops that by only giving users basic access. This is another reason why you don?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢t need to run Anti-Virus, Anti-Spyware software on your Ubuntu(linux) machine. Mac OS also works like this and Vista has learnt and works similar but still doesn?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢t pull it off correctly. This is why you still need a virus scanner on your Vista machine. IT Manager that use linux will spend less time fixing computers due to users breaking them caused by virus?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s or a change the user made. So it?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s a major cost effective and productivity improvement to use linux. As it will take a few hours to fix the virus problem normally by reinstalling the OS and you could lose your data during this process.

?¢‚Ǩ?ìFinally we notice that Ubuntu Linux is the first OS to come bundled with software that runs Bit-torrent: As we previously reported this is software used by European pirates to rip off American industry and steal bandwidth from telcos to distribute porn. Once again we should compare Window?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s sensible bundling strategy, in which only basic system tools such as a web-browser are integrated into the core-operating system. What on earth possessed the Linux kernel developers to add ?¢‚Ǩ?ìlow-level?¢‚Ǩ¬ù support for bit torrent, unless of course this is a European plan to incriminate us all.?¢‚Ǩ¬ù

You are correct Ubuntu comes with a bit torrent client, which will allow users download files from other people and companies. Now this can be used for legal or illegal means, this is up to the USER. Bit torrent technology is used by software distributors such as Ubuntu which you could of used to get your Beta copy of Ubuntu and the MPAA(Movie makers) are trialing the use of bit torrent to distribute movies to customers.

The same could be said about web browsers Windows comes with tools that allow users to do illegal activates such as download movies, music, porn from WEBSITES. You as a user can run Internet Explorer and get the same content the people do with bit torrent.

The OS is a tool no matter what OS that is can be used for illegal activities again its up to the USER to perform the activities.

Atheism? Communism? Windowism? Linuxism? Satirism? Christianism?

Well I may have some of the above, but surely there’s a pill available.

I liked you article very much Jimmy. But is it impossible to escape the ‘ethos’ of whichever operating system we choose. The main problem, as I see it, is whether or not we are foolish enough to allow anything to control our minds as well as our computer. I mean, lets face it, a normal PC does not know the truth, it is merely a machine containing whatever information we pour into it, like oil into a car. But we humans know the truth, even if some of us look, metaphorically, away from what’s in front of us, while heading right for it anyway.
If someone uses Linux because they feel it’s communist, well it’s off the beaten path these days, but it’s just another direction. And if some consider Windows christian, I guess it’s up to you. It’s still merely another direction to meander down, till you all reach the the same end.
I have little interest in politics or religion, as none of it would be necessary if we would all understand each other, use the same operating system, and just be good neighbors.
Anyway, I am merely a cheapskate web surfer, who uses Linux Ubuntu, drinks tea, ( never beer, Shelly ;-) ), and eats his vegetables like a good boy should.

All this “Linux” stuff is free and developed globally meaning that it doesn’t contribute to our national GDP (and therefore our financial means to continue the crusade against the IslamoFascists), whereas to purchase Vista is to put a helmet on the head of an American crusader fighting for their lives in those foreign lands. Of course our Christian Republic doesn’t - and shouldn’t - charge Microsoft much in the way of taxes as that is Communist; BUT as long as we - and all decent people - contribute to the American economy by BUYING AMERICAN we maintain our ability to maintain the occupation and conversion to Christ of those heathens in Iraqistan.

This article is the biggest load of bull crap I’ve ever read. My Ubuntu system can run circles around any Windows XP or, especially, Vista system.

    1. “lacking visual style”? Are you serious? When you download Ubuntu it is semi basic because not everyone wants all show and no go. If you want flashy effects and junk then just move your little mouse curser and go to system, preferences, and then Advanced Desktop Effects. Has anyone else seen the youtube video of what beryl can do? Two words: THE CUBE!

    2. “One of the great things about Windows is the ease of obtaining powerful utilities and applications”? Yeah, for a price. I’ve downloaded countless utilities and applications that can do everything and more that the average Windows user has to pay for. And how hard is it to just go to Synaptic, Add/Remove, or Automatix and just click on Apply after you pick what you want to download.

    3. Memorizing a series of passwords to install things? Obviously he doesn’t know what he is talking about because there is only ONE password to know which is the same one you log into the system with. Last I checked that was the same amount Windows needs if you log into it. Also, buy having to enter this password before downloading stuff it ensures that nothing you don’t want downloaded gets downloaded. in Windows the gates are wide open and viruses and everything can just go right through with out you knowing. Did anyone see what OS lasted the longest in that hacking challenge a little bit ago. Oh yeah, that would be Ubuntu coming out of that one unscathed.

    4. “Window?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s sensible bundling strategy, in which only basic system tools such as a web-browser are integrated into the core-operating system”? Ha! This one made me laugh. Windows comes bundled with so much crap you don’t need that usually the first hour or so you have with your new system is spent trying to uninstall all that crap. Did anyone else see what the news with Sony charging its customers $50 to clear their new Windows systems of that unneeded trial software and junk? Compare that with just 1 or 2 applications on Ubuntu and if you dont want them then get rid of them. Simple as that.

So in conclusion. This whole article is just a pile of crap obviously done by someone who doesn’t have any real experience with Ubuntu. Ubuntu is ready for the big time. I’ve got both my younger brother and sister using it. And just to prove its greatness, I have my 46 year old mother using it. That’s saying a lot since I think most will agree that parents are pretty technologically inclined. So don’t listen do this guy. I’ve been a faithful user for 2 years now and would push Ubuntu on anyone who is tired of Mac or Windows. After all, what’s there to lose? It’s FREEEEE!

I work in a computer test lab for a living. I love Ubuntu. It beats the crap out of bloated Vista, Red Hat and numerous other distros. I have used Synaptic, but when I know what I want it’s just as easy or easier to use apt-get. Synaptic is good for searching on a keyword for something you may want to use then you can research what you find before loading it. I always find it funny how STR talks down on Linux when the US NSA contributes to Linux (SELinux).

You know, technically no application is “installed” on linux. It doesn’t keep all program settings in a registry like Windows does. It just runs from a file. Either way, Ubuntu is the worse Linux distro in my mind, it’s the slowest by far, PC Linux is much better and can do all kinds’o'crap. I can run my own website (I have nowhere near the bandwidth so don’t even hope for it). Either way I have here some very simple steps to make your computer absent of evil.

First, find an open desk space. Second, map out your magic anti-vista circle (windows logo with X threw it). Third Prepare the main tool, the trusty electromagnet. Finally, use the magnets power to exorcise your disk of evilness. The Rebirth, acquire the almighty Linux live CD, and use it to restore your now freed hard disk from the depths of Hell

Correction (and still only a basic part of the explanation)

The ?¢‚Ǩ?ìCompletely Fair Scheduler?¢‚Ǩ¬ù is one of many I/O schedulers thats configured and built into the Linux kernel. It will allow thousands of processes to run without bogging down your system performance. You know that functionality as “multitasking”.

I’d like to point out to anyone that pre-installed Vista is an OPTION. You can get your money back for it! That means that if you want to buy a new laptop you can do so for around about $100 LESS if you ask them to remove Vista when you buy it.

JUST REMEMBER - READ THE EULA. If you don’t agree with it then Decline it! Vista is not a necessity.

Shelley, could you please read the EULA for me and tell me which bits of it are Christian, I’d love an analysis of it. You agree with it if you are running Microsoft Products.

A Copy is available here: http://download.microsoft.com/documents/useterms/Windows%20Vista_Ultimate_English_36d0fe99-75e4-4875-8153-889cf5105718.pdf

I’m sorry that the only format I could find it in was an OPEN format, but it’s distributed by Microsoft, so is that ok?

Also, I’d like to point out that if people were sufficiently patriotic that they could not pay for Windows, install a free operating system and donate the money that would have gone to Bill Gates to a charity. Maybe Christian Aid?

I’d also like to point out that your CPU usage is so high because you are using ASP, another inefficient Microsoft product.

I cannot believe how little the person that wrote this blog know about Linux. How can you compare any other operating system to Vista? Vista is nothing but trash. Its not just my opinion, look at how many people have not upgraded to it. I work at a big college, in the department that I am in there are no Vista machines. Yes I am a Linux systems admin but I also have been using windows since the days of DOS. I have used every release of Windows Except for Vista. Why would I BUY a piece of software that will not even allow my old programs to work. Why would I want a big huge bloated piece of crap.

I have used Ubuntu Linux since it came out either on a laptop or on one of my desktops. I have been able to use it for everything that I did in XP. There is no need to spend $200 on Vista $400 on Office and who knows how much on the computer that it would need to run it. I can take an older machine put Ubuntu on it And Open Office on there for FREE. Personally I will never run Vista I cant stand how the OS looks and its SLOW. I would rather use XP with no updates and actually be able to do some work. If you look at computer sales lately Apple has started to gain some of the benefits from Vista. I know I have switched to Mac for my desktops and my servers are all Red Hat or Centos.

I also have to comment on the Synaptic package manager over Windows applications. Synaptic is much easier to use than installing programs in Windows. In Synaptic you do not have to go search the internet for the piece of software that you want, all you have to do is select from the list what kind of software that you want and it does all the work for you. With Windows you have to search and search and finally find what you want then you can download it along with all kinds of malware, greyware, spyware, viruses, and whatever else there is that can crash Windows.

Microsoft is just a greedy company that wants you to pay money for crap. The reason they keep there code closed source is so that people don’t see how they keep charging you for the same software over and over. All Vista is is just some updates to change the way that XP looks. I also thought that I read somewhere that Microsoft was going to block antivirus software on Vista cause it was harmless to the Vista Kernel. The only reason they want to do that is so you have to buy THEIR antivirus software.

As for server OS’s why in the world would you want all of your processing power to go to unneeded graphics. If you cant configure something from the command line in a text file than get away from the computer. Windows and its supposed ease of use is for beginners, it should only be on the desktop. Servers should do the job which is serving users needs and can do it better without graphics to slow it
    down.

“Finally we notice that Ubuntu Linux is the first OS to come bundled with software that runs Bit-torrent: As we previously reported this is software used by European pirates to rip off American industry and steal bandwidth from telcos to distribute porn.”

What where you thinking about when you wrote this? Just because it comes with it installed does not mean that most people will use it. Also look at how many different Bit-torrent clients there are for Linux and then look at how many there are for Windows. Just because its not installed on windows does not mean that people do not put it on there. I bet if you scan a certain subnet on the Internet you will find that most people now days use this software, not all for bad use. I use it to down load files from Ubuntu, or say Centos. Neither of those companies distribute illegal files or porn. You also do not need a bit-torrent client to download illegal or porn. Bit-torrent has a bad name because of people downloading things that they should not, which can be done without bit-torrents. How was it done before bit-torrents came out?

So in my opinion this blog was a waste of my time to read.

The article is a funny piece of satire…reminds of me of the Colbert Report. I fear, however, for the state of American satire nowadays, if even educated people have difficulty catching on.

But seriously, folks, Ubuntu rocks. My computer came with Vista on it, and within just two hours of use, Windows Explorer went into a “Microsoft Death Loop,” and I finally had to say goodbye to Windows forever. I installed Ubuntu that day and never looked back. I wasn’t a “convert” to Linux; I was a refugee.

Since then, I’ve been able to do everything on Ubuntu that I was able to do on Windows and more…and without that blue-screen crap to haunt my nightmares.
