Breaking News : Release of Ubuntu 8.04 postponed until further notice

Unnamed sources just confirmed that massive security problems have been discovered, therefore the release of Hardy Heron has been (maybe/hopefully permanently delayed).

The countdown clock has been replaced by the generic message that Ubuntu is “coming soon”. Yeah right. Windows Vista is available in a store near you RIGHT NOW, folks.

Some people love it, most people hate it, it’s a “operating system” for outsiders, for troublemakers and for people who hate America. Ubuntu Linux basically is a hobbyists past-time activity.

According to insiders there exist rumors that Canonical Ltd., the maker of Ubuntu, will discontinue the development of their operating system.

UPDATE:

A polished version of Ubuntu 7.10 has been hastily released to cover up Connolicial’s upcoming demise.
Our technical advisor has confirmed that Ubuntu Horny Heron is in fact NOT a “new version” of Ubuntu but rather the same old same old ineffective, unstable Russian linux kernel.

Stay tuned for the latest developments.

strange to read that 8.04 doesn’t exist while i sit here USING IT.
smelley, we live in different universes.
    just stay out of mine.

    HAIL ERIS!

Thank you for confirming that ubuntu users are heavily feeble minded.
You are using a BETA VERSION, Sir.

  4. me April 24th, 2008 4:26 am

    Are you for real?

You dont have any Idea what are you talking about but still have opinions about everything…

    WOW… oh wait… she supports Bush… oh thats why…

You seriusly need medical help PRONTO, you are very very very sick.

I am truly sorry for you, hope you get better.

  5. Shelley Goodman April 24th, 2008 4:30 am

    Oh, I see.
I informed our readers that the release of the new Ubuntu was postponed and your response is that I am wrong because you “are using it” … I countered with the fact that you are using a beta or “release candidate” and what is your response? You insult me.
I bring you facts, you bring insults.
I feel very sorry for YOU, Sir.

    Shelley

I would like to hear your proof of it being delayed, since it was/is to be released on April 24th, which in my time, there is still almost 20hours left in the day.
Just because the countdown clock says “coming soon”, doesn’t mean that its been delayed, it means they still have 20+- hours to release it.

If you could post or link to an official source for your article i would believe it.

  7. roms April 24th, 2008 4:53 am

Well, not every Ubuntu user is like “me”, I mean him.
Ubuntu release is clearly not postponed, it’s actually being uploaded on different mirrors worldwild so that everybody can get it with a relatively good bandwidth from anywhere at the same time. This is like Vista CD packs being sent to every stores worldwild but only within a few hours, not days.
I actually have access to a ftp where I can see the final version ready to be downloaded, we must be waiting for the last official ftps around the planet to get updated and they should place the links on the Ubuntu website.
Please do not call us outsiders, troublemakers or suppose we hate America. First, this is insulting and shocking. Secondly, Vista is technically below the level of latests Linux distributions, which are themselves a bit below Mac OS Leopard. This concurrency on the market tends to make MS Windows move forward and get better faster than it should have without. So you should be grateful Ubuntu and others exist.
    Regards

I’m sorry, but “insider rumors’, at least for me, do not qualify as facts. There is a perfectly reasonable explanation for the “Coming Soon” posted on the main page. Most likely, this only means that its release is coming very soon (within 24hrs), not delayed.

I will believe that it has been delayed when they announce it.

    Oh, and before I go.
“Some people love it, most people hate it, it?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s a ?¢‚Ǩ?ìoperating system?¢‚Ǩ¬ù for outsiders, for troublemakers and for people who hate America. Ubuntu Linux basically is a hobbyists past-time activity.”
Untrue. So very untrue. Many people use Ubuntu Linux daily for desktop work, servers, etc of the sort. To say that I hate America due to my choice in operating systems is just plain ignorant. Just from an observation (specifically the links you posted on the Ubuntu forums), YOU are the troublemaker here.

    Please, don’t spread false information.

(There. Someone wrote something fairly civil)

The ISO for this release has been up for mirroring since 01:03 yesterday:

    -rw-rw-r– 1001 1001 733079552 Apr 23 01:03 ubuntu-8.04-desktop-i386.iso
    -rw-rw-r– 1001 1001 731170816 Apr 23 01:03 ubuntu-8.04-desktop-amd64.iso
    -rw-rw-r– 1001 1001 550230016 Apr 23 12:23 ubuntu-8.04-server-i386.iso
    -rw-rw-r– 1001 1001 561291264 Apr 23 12:22 ubuntu-8.04-server-amd64.iso

Nothing has been postponed. The “coming soon” message is perfectly normal.

You are a HEBETUDINOUS TROLL, Madam.

  10. Truth April 24th, 2008 5:11 am

Since we’re all just making random allegations here, I hereby claim that Microsoft Vista is an “operating system” made for evil people who hate God, babies, flowers and animals. Also they’re probably gay. Unless you like gay people, in which case they’re people who hate gay people.

And Vista is not Beta? Why all the service packs then, if it’s already complete?

  11. 0ni April 24th, 2008 5:20 am

ftp://releases.ubuntu.com/releases/8.04/ ~~ The final release is out.

GG lol. You fail at life. Your website is hosted on a Windows server.

How about you take all things discrediting Ubuntu down or I will cause major downtime [1 week +] to your website. You have a choice. Be nice and I play nice.

Shelley this article proves once and for all that Linux is not ready for the desktop. No businesses can accept an OS’r that doesn’t meet strict time deadlines. Have you ever heard of Windows missing a deadline, even once? Exactly, yet another point for private enterprise!

    Always Right

  21. me April 24th, 2008 9:11 am

btw, nr 4 wasn’t “me”, at least not me.
the beta-phase is over, smelley, it’s a RELEASE CANDIDATE. And it differs only slightly from the final product.

at least they call it alpha, beta or release candidate to mark it as “unstable” (which it mostly isn’t).
microsoft just sells its shit, which remains in the beta-phase until the next “generation” of crap.

“You are using a BETA VERSION, Sir.”

you are, too. just you paid for it. which is VERY intelligent.

“Have you ever heard of Windows missing a deadline, even once? Exactly, yet another point for private enterprise!”
well, they had to postpone EVERY SINGLE RELEASE SINCE THEY PRODUCE WINDOWS.
charlie boy, you’re lying. there’s a door in heaven that just shut for you, honey.

“. No businesses can accept an OS?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢r that doesn?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢t meet strict time deadlines. Have you ever heard of Windows missing a deadline, even once?”

There have never been any deadlines for Windows or Linux, you idiot, only release dates that were set by the guys programming them. And Microsoft has a especially sordid history of breaking their own schedules.

To sum this whole discussion up: Windows is for people that want it quick, easy, in a fixed package, at a steep price and being completely reliant on MC.

Linux is for people who actually understand something about computers and want a cheap, reliable and easily adaptable OS that can be configured to anyone?Ǭ¥s personal liking. It only requires what people like SHelley and her ilk abhor so much: Knowledge, skill and work.

vista on store shelves now while ubuntu is on hold.

did everyone forget that it took almost 5 years of delays, and name changes for Windows to finally release the piece of crap known as Vista

” No businesses can accept an OS?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢r that doesn?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢t meet strict time deadlines. Have you ever heard of Windows missing a deadline, even once? Exactly, ”

actually, MS is bizzy programming a buggy OS they neeed to earn some money too, therefor they set up a deadline, why do you think Service packs are invented?
Also, Ubuntu does have a deadline, you think its called 8.04 for a reason? (year+ month…get it ?)

  31. Link48010 2 Beta 1 April 26th, 2008 2:29 am

“According to insiders there exist rumors that Canonical Ltd., the maker of Ubuntu, will discontinue the development of their operating system.”

Uhm, companies may organize the distor, but no one single company really makes Ubuntu. Also we get an update like every few months, MS has pased them out now upwords of like 6 years with Vista, oh and there is a little saying that applies to MS, the bigger they are, the harder they fall.

“Unnamed sources just confirmed that massive security problems have been discovered, therefore the release of Hardy Heron has been (maybe/hopefully permanently delayed).”

Ahahaha, this coming from an MS supporter? Okay first I’m going to say a system that makes even the dumbest computer uses cringe (much less someone like me who worked on it to fix which was impossible) ME, do you here me you idiots.. M-fucken-E. The biggest flop since…. EVER IN THE COMPUTER WORLD!!! Either way, did you know that when Vista launched, UAC gave hackers more access (till some updates patched it) and even that fancy animated curser was a security hole in Vista. Linux is actually the most secure system on the market, showing up both Windows and Mac OS. They patch issues “BEFORE” a few million people get the system and are at risk, aside from the fact that this whole article is simply not true. Well, actuall Amiga could have been more secure, but that’s because it was all based on FASTRAM (deletes after restarting) and ROM (can’t be written), thus viruses find it a little hard to write themselves to the system :P.
