Python: You are the weakest link!

You might have noticed that my posts have been rather infrequent - the truth is I’ve been giving virtually every spare moment I have to the McCain campaign: We owe it to Jesus to help the Republican party any way we can! We must guarantee another four years of Republican government. And between you and me, when John McCain gets elected I’ve been promised an important role as the new Presidential Data-retention advisor!
As STR’s senior technology correspondent I’m often asked why it is that the open-source freetards have failed to catch-up with even ten-year old mainstream technology such as Windows 2000. While many people suspect the answer is the self-limiting communistic dogma that software has to be free, the truth is far more complex:
A serious examination of Linux will reveal that much of it is built from a hodge-podge of incompatible “scripting languages” rather than real programming languages; this naturally results in sluggish performance and the unpredictability of a bucking-bronco. But what is a scripting language?
Real programming languages such as C++, C# and VB.Net are serious affairs that build highly optimized code suitable for any component of an operating system. Serious products like Microsoft Word and Microsoft’s cmd.exe are built entirely using these solid, trustworthy tools.
On the other hand scripting languages such as “python”, “perl” and “ruby” are built as educational toys or pranks. While they have a place in the hobbyists toolbox, and as lessons in what future language designers should avoid their slow execution and costly memory overhead make them unsuitable for any important or business critical task.
The serious programming languages are noteworthy for their long-lasting appeal: VB.Net is as stable, flexible and easy to learn as the original Visual Basic released almost 15 years ago. On the other hand, new-kid Python is the latest craze amongst open-sourcers despite only having reached version 2.5! The Python language is notorious fror it’s frequently changing, incomprehensible syntax - it’s virtually impossible to make a program that runs in any consistent way for a period of time.
Astonishingly the Linuxers have yet to realize this - many components of Ubuntu and Redhat (two somewhat popular kinds of Linux Kernel) use Python for their package updater - see our previous Linux 8.04 review for just how bad this experience was!
Ultimately, if these Linuxes ever want to grow up and be ready for the world of business they will need to abandon these development fads and embrace what is tried, tested and true. This year Python is the fashonable language, but next year the freetards might decide that Perl is “in” again… and then what next? How can any serious power-user keep up with these rapidly changing bizarrely named tool-chains? The answer is that they will be avoided.

McCain definately does not get my vote and the reason why his wife Cindy McCain and her refusal to release her tax returns this made me physically sick and i get the feeling she’s hiding something and doe’snt want that seen she also say’s it’s a private matter.i think she’s hiding something but i could be wrong and if she is not hiding anything then why is she so afraid of releasing her tax return? she is not the first lady i want as first lady but the snobby bitch probably will be. she just makes me physically sick.

Ruby. Python - its languages designed for fast and easy programming.
Linux is actually programmed in C just like Windows.

Astonishingly, Windows Vista needs far more RAM and processor power than most Linux variants. Fascinating, seems like those “Child toys and pranks” can actually work faster and more efficient that “real” programming languages. PS: C++? That´s about as outdated as fucking MS-DOS.

Is that why Windows is the most unstable platform in the world currently? For those of us who either do not know the blue screen of death (BSOD) or moved away from it long ago, we know your assumptions are false and FUD based.
Linux IS written in C, VB.net is a proprietary locked in language that LIMITS your choice.. Python on the other hand is far more stable, and is platform independent.. Funny, I would figure that we as Americans would like Independence, and not be LIMITED by a convicted Monopolist (Microsoft vs DoJ), but maybe it’s just me…

- The Navy use Zope (a python framework)
- Nasa & Google runs python for many developpements
- CBS runs Zope

I know it’s a little bit offensive but your declaration on the programming is as ignorant as your political views. [Or, you have the freedom to hold your idea, but please please use some Python and script language before making that statement. It's not a toy, really!]
I guess you have never actually used Python. Python is a thin and intuitive abstraciton layer on top of the best and most portable C/C++ libraries (including Posix). You can add libraries yourself in C/C++ or assembler. This is why it is very popular in academic environments. You can easily combine services (like SOAP) with GUIs (like Qt) with visualization libraries (like VTK), etc. into very complex and portable applications.

I am the ceo of an open source development company specialized in Python. I can confirm you that it is particularly apreciated in many companies for profesional development. There is nothing to do with political view (communisme, capitalism…) : if our customers choose this language it is because it is the best and more efficient.

Scripting languages have got their place and ignoring it
only means that you dont mind your project burning in hell..
btw I’ve worked at amzn and I’ve used both scripting and static languages. I can vouch that scripting languages are great for writing “glue” code which will take you ages to write in a statically typed language.
A few Facts:
AMZN uses perl
GOOG uses python
youtube/reddit use python
Y! uses PHP
This does not mean that they do not use other languages. Every language/tool has its place and one must evaluate where to use it.

coding VB feels like drowning in puke !!
and Here are my top reasons why:
- Not a real OO language but poses to be one
- Really ugly exception hangling - built on GOTO
- bloatware - tried bundling/shipping a VB6 app ?
- very poor build system
— Huge dependency on GUI - ever tried compiling VB without Visual Studio - is is possible but it is hell.
- I can go on but this should be good enough of a sampler
agreed VB.net is much better…but no votes for VB6.
All I can suggest is try out a few of those “kid” languages before making lousy comments like this - you will realize what you have missed out all these years.
